Premier League Champions Chelsea have reportedly suffered a major blow, in the form of their star striker Alvaro Morata being ruled out for more than a month due to a grade two hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old came off holding his thigh in the 35th minute of Chelsea’s defeat to table-toppers Manchester City on Saturday. And even though Blues’ manager Antonio Conte stated that the substitution was a mere precaution and nothing serious, the Spaniard could still miss up to seven matches for Chelsea over the coming weeks.

According to The Telegraph, the injury, which was initially thought to keep Morata out for a couple of weeks, would instead keep him sidelined for anywhere between six to eight weeks, after the Spanish Football Federation revealed that he had sustained a myofascial injury to his hamstring.

Furthermore, Conte also confirmed the news that the former Real Madrid man had pulled out of the National squad for Spain’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Israel.

The 24-year-old underwent an MRI scan that revealed a grade two injury, and though the Spanish team of doctors haven’t put any official timescale on Morata’s absence, such type of injuries usually take upto a month to recover from.

Meanwhile, the Chelsea boss has Michy Batshuayi as a viable replacement option for the injured No. 9, but given the fact that the Italian tactician has some major trust issues with Batshuayi, Conte would hope that Morata recovers and returns to training as soon as possible.

Morata completed his switch to Chelsea from Real Madrid for a club record fee of £60 million, and is currently the club’s top scorer with seven goals.
