Premier League powerhouses Manchester City and Manchester United are ready to go head-to-head in an attempt to sign England U21 star Jack Harrison.

Though Harrison graduated from the United academy alongside Marcus Rashford, he ended up departing from the club, as he did not see a future with the Red Devils. The talented wideman left Old Trafford at the age of 14, and headed to the US in order to try out his luck there.

The Englishman managed to get a call-up for the England U21 squad for the first time this week, due to his new found stardom in MLS.

However, the New York City youngster could soon be seen reuniting with his boyhood club, as Jose Mourinho’s side is keen on bringing him back, according to The Sun.

Unfortunately, they will have to fend off intense competition from their local rivals, who possess a massive advantage over them. City being affiliated with the MLS giants, have first dibs on signing Harrison, and are likely to secure his services.

The report from The Sun stated: “City will have first dibs on Harrison at New York if he continues his rapid progress. It’s sure to rub United up the wrong way after what happened to him as a kid.

“He’s having a great time over in the US. City are hearing positive things from the execs in New York and that Harrison is an exciting late bloomer.”

Though the 20-year-old departed from England after seeing no future there, he now appears set to make a return, though it is yet to be seen whether it’s to the red or blue side of Manchester.
