Juventus are set to turn down the opportunity to sign Angel Gomes from Manchester United, according to reports.

Calciomercato, a well known Italian news outlet, has claimed that scouts of the Old Lady suggested the 17-year-old wonderkid to the board, but the top officials decided against making a move to avoid ‘ruining’ the relationship they have with the Old Trafford outfit.

Gomes is highly rated at the Theatre of Dreams, and has been tipped to become one of the best players in the world in a few years by a number of people who have watched him come through the ranks.

The English starlet has constantly played in age groups above his own, and his talent is so evident that Jose Mourinho decided to hand the teenager his first-team debut at the fag end of last season, sending him on as an 88th minute substitute for Wayne Rooney against Crystal Palace.

At just 16 years of age, the cameo made him the youngest ever player to turn out for the Red Devils since Duncan Edwards in 1953, and he was also the youngest ever player to win the Jimmy Murphy Player of the Year award, having scored 12 goals in 19 starts for the club’s u-18 side.

His incredible talent has attracted the likes of Barcelona, along with the aforementioned Juventus, and it is slightly worrying for the Red Devils that Gomes has stalled over signing a deal that would be his first professional contract in football.

However, United can at least rest easy in the knowledge that Gomes will avoid ‘doing a Pogba,’ as Juventus have made it clear that they are pulling out of any such potential transfer.
