Cristiano Ronaldo is undoubtedly one of the most gifted athletes of the modern era, and he has never been shy to show his talent off in front of the footballing crowd. However, the Portuguese has recently set aside his signature skill displays on the pitch, so as to focus on the more ‘important’ aspects of the game.

If there is anything Ronaldo was famous for before his switch to Real Madrid, it was for his surreal knack on a dead ball, and the ability to trick defenders using his dazzling control. The Portuguese international was often seen stepping over the ball, as he breezed past almost every challenge the opposition defenders offered him.

However, Los Blancos’ talisman recently seems to have lost his touch in the art of dribbling, leading many people to question his ability on the basis of a mere 25 dribbles he completed in La Liga last time around.

Nevertheless, as in most cases, the criticism and speculations hardly seem to have any relevance to reality, as the former Red Devil himself has admitted to have made up his mind to set aside flashy moves for the greater good of his team.

“In a game, the most important thing is to win, and goals help to win,” the mercurial forward told famous freestyler Touzani during an interview. “You can mix – first goals, and after tricks and assists after. What the people want is goals, so I try to score goals.”

Much like the alchemic rule of equivalent exchange, Ronaldo has given up his personal impressions in order to help his side perform at a higher standard. Though that makes perfect sense, however, the decorated winger hasn’t been able to prevent Real’s rocky start to the campaign.

Nevertheless, the record champions are expected to bounce back soon enough, and get going right after the international break.
