Jose Mourinho appears likely to face an injury crisis, as Marouane Fellaini may have taken a serious knock on his ligament during international duty, according to Belgium boss Roberto Martinez.

The Red Devils faced Bosnia in a thrilling 3-4 victory on Saturday for the World Cup qualifiers. And though they emerged as the victors thanks to a late winner by Yannick Carrasco, all was not good, as Fellaini was sidelined due to what seems like a severe ligament damage.

The Belgian central midfielder has been in stunning form lately, and has already claimed 4 goals in all competitions this season. He was on fire during his side’s previous Premier League outing, wherein he managed to net a brace, sealing yet another victory.

It looks like Mourinho will have to attempt to continue United’s fine form without the former Everton man, who looks unfit to play for quite a long time. The situation was brought to public ears by Martinez, who deeply regretted the incident, as international injuries drastically affect games at club level.

“We are all worried about Fellaini. We fear that there’s ligament damage,” the Spaniard revealed.

Ligament injuries relatively take a long period to completely heal, which poses a problem for Manchester United’s midfield. Though Ander Herrera could be seen replacing the Belgian international, the giant midfielder, who happens to be one of Mourinho’s favourite players, will certainly be missed on the pitch.

The 29-year-old is now set to undergo further medical assessment, in order to determine the complete severity of the injury.
