The romance between Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United is one for the story books. The Portuguese’s love for Old Trafford and former boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, is no secret to the ones who follow the sport. The modern day fairy tale, which began on 16th August 2003 at the Theatre Of Dreams, saw a prodigy develop into arguably the World’s Best even before he switched to Real Madrid.

Despite moving to Spain, Ronaldo still holds extremely high regards for his former side, and that is what ignites the same rumour every summer. CR7’s dream return to Manchester United is what every fan wishes to see, but the grand move somehow always fizzles out.

However, the way things stand right now, the dramatic reunion seems to be more probable than it ever was. Even though the summer window shut down without Ronaldo moving to England, especially after the forward announced that he did not want to play in Spain anymore, United are still eyeing to bring in their former star next season.

It all started with the Spanish authorities charging the superstar with tax evasion, and though the Portuguese captain has pleaded not guilty to the accusations levied at him, the case is no where close to an end.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane wanted to sign Kylian Mbappe as Ronaldo’s successor, but the move failed to materialize. And as of now, almost all the events have changed, but the tax evasion charges on the 32-year-old still haven’t been dropped.

Furthermore, Ronaldo is extremely unhappy with the way the Spanish authorities continue to treat him, and as per trusted journalist Duncan Castles, the decorated wide-man still wants to move away from Madrid, despite having decided to stay put with the club for now.

The Sun reported that while talking to The Transfer Window Podcast, Castles was questioned about Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard’s potential switch to Spain, to which he replied: “You’ve got to take into account the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave.

“That situation hasn’t changed. He’s looking to find a club that will take him. And if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves then 1) Real Madrid have a lot of extra money to spend. 2) They have a hole in the squad that someone like Eden Hazard or Kevin De Bruyne could fill. It will be that category of talent. It’s a potential next world superstar that they will go for.”

Also, the fact that Ronaldo wants to be paid more than Barcelona’s Lionel Messi – a deal which Real are unwilling to go forward with – could eventually be United’s ticket to bring back the four time Ballon d’Or winner. It was also reported that the Red Devils are willing to fulfill their former star’s massive wage demands in a bid to re-sign him.

Ronaldo has netted 411 goals in the 401 appearances he has made for the Madrid-based giants, with 5 goals in 7 games so far this season.
