Jose Mourinho’s New First-Choice Left-Back Revealed, And It’s NOT Luke Shaw

Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre believes that the Red Devils’ left-back problems seem to be over for now, as manager Jose Mourinho has found a suitable player to fill the role.
The position was a major problem for the Portuguese tactician last season, as he rotated the likes of Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo, and Luke Shaw to find the ideal combination, but none seemed to work.
As a result, Jose was keen on bringing in a top left-back in this summer, and was reportedly eyeing Tottenham’s Danny Rose, but no deal materialised.

Though Rose is still mooted to make a switch to Old Trafford come January, Mourinho seems to have found a perfect fit for the position until the winter transfer window reopens.
Ashley Young has come out to impress the United gaffer as well as former star defender Mikael Silvestre. The Frenchman has been left dazzled by the 32-year-old’s performances, and while talking to 888sport (via Daily Star), Silvestre heaped enormous praise on the English wide-man.

“Ashley now knows the game and what the position requires. He’s played wing-back and sometimes left-back and he has the maturity to play that role,” Silvestre said.
“We know what he can produce going forward with his crossing ability whipping in balls for Lukaku but defensively he is sound too. He is well equipped for that position.”
Young, who is naturally a left winger, has carefully understood the more defensive role given to him by Mourinho, and the changeover has proved to be vital in United’s blistering start to this year’s campaign.
