Premier League champions Chelsea saw the harsher side of their social media post on Twitter prior to the match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Blues posted a graphic video version of the details of Palace’s season so far, alongside statistics to highlight what could have been an easy victory for them. But the tweet backfired heavily, as Antonio Conte’s men suffered a stunning 1-2 loss against the Eagles to throw away the opportunity of staying at the heels of Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea’s video representation started with what fans need to know about their opponents, before highlighting all the stats of Palace, who lost their opening seven games and failed to net a single goal.

Less that Chelsea’s social media team knew what was in store for them, with fans ridiculing the post after the match ended. Posts like ‘All you need to know after today’s game’ were an example of ways the fans hit back.

Palace notched their first win in eight games, and beating the champions will give them a window to kick-start their disastrous season from here on. Manager Roy Hodgson, who replaced the sacked Frank de Boer, earned a hard fought victory to breathe relief.

Chelsea’s Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta scored an own goal early on to give Palace an unlikely lead. Conte’s team fought back with a goal from Tiémoué Bakayoko. Wilfried Zaha, who made a comeback after injury, grabbed the winning goal to get the Palace fans jumping from their seats.
