Dwight Yorke Explains The Big Difference Between Jose Mourinho & Sir Alex Ferguson

Jose Mourinho has been subjected to criticism regarding his chary approach in United’s goalless draw at Anfield, despite having a team capable of pushing the opponents hard at his disposal.
It was apparent that the Red Devils’ coach was content with just a point against the Reds. However, Dwight Yorke conceded that the gaffer’s attitude towards big away games would have left him a bit frustrated. He is unsatisfied with Mourinho’s tactics, and doesn’t believe he has the same outlook on victory as Sir Alex Ferguson did.
The Red Devils won a startling 13 Premier League titles under Ferguson, but unfortunately, had to revamp when the Scottish tactician announced his retirement. Since then, Mourinho happens to be the third manager striving to get United to be the Premier League title holders again.
The Portuguese’s side has been free-scoring this season, until the clash against their fierce rivals commenced. But as frustrating as it sounds, the Mancunian giants adopted a highly-defensive approach, and consequently, they were able to produce only one shot on target.
Moreover, in the seven away games Manchester United have played against Manchester City, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in all competitions under Mourinho’s management, the Red Devils have managed to score just one goal.
Yorke, a 1999 Treble winner with United, has claimed that Ferguson would never have embraced such tactics against Liverpool. And further, he believes that the former Real Madrid manager is still uncertain of how United are expected to play.
“Sir Alex Ferguson was a different manager [to Mourinho], he understood the Manchester United way of playing,” he told beIN Sports. “He instilled a lot of confidence in us and made us feel that we could go to the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal back in the day and overturn them, not just go there and get a draw but to go there and win a game.
“So we were pretty confident whether we were playing at home or away. We had a winning mentality to go to the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal and certainly get a result. So Sir Alex Ferguson’s approach to games was a winning attitude and a winning mentality and that’s how we approached it back then.”
Despite being heavily criticized, however, the ex-Chelsea coach has started the season exceptionally well, as his team has been able to seize 20 points from just 8 matches in the Premier League, allowing them to rest in the second position in the table with ease.
