Mourinho Provides An Update On Marcus Rashford’s Fitness
Jose Mourinho has given an update on Marcus Rashford after an injury scare was feared during the side’s 1-0 win overt Benfica in the UEFA Champions League.
Rashford scored the only goal of the game, and looked lively all along, as Jose’s side missed the cutting edge. The versatile forward was replaced by Frenchman Anthony Martial during the second half of the match, once United went ahead.
With plenty of fixtures on United’s plate in the upcoming days, it was worrisome for the Mancunian club, which has already been missing several key assets.
Ahead of their trip to Huddersfield in the Premier League, Mourinho was asked about Rashford’s situation, to which he replied: “Rashford? Fit.Nobody else. Same players. We have the same players as we had for the Benfica match.”
United also have a midweek away trip to Swansea in the Carabao Cup, before facing Tottenham Hotspur next weekend. A home clash against Benfica in the UCL is followed by a trip to London, where they will face champions Chelsea.
Jose cited that having key players out presents opportunities to his other players to step up, and he is confident about his side.
“The way we try to do it is always to speak about opportunities for others. It doesn’t mean I don’t miss the players, I would like them to be here for us. And yes, in answer to your question, nobody is back from injury but what we have is good,” the boss added.
Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini, and Michael Carrick continue their spells on the sidelines in midfield, and Eric Bailly remains out in defence. Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been absent from the end of the previous season, and will make their returns in the near future.
Therefore, for now, Jose will have to rotate well with what is available to him, and could use players in makeshift positions.
