Angry Mourinho Explains Why His Side Deserved To Lose Against Huddersfield

Saturday saw United’s unbeaten run in the Premier League come to a terrible end, as they were defeated 2-1 by Huddersfield Town. The shortcoming was one that few supporters, if any, would have anticipated, and a dismal showing by the traveling Red Devils ensured that no points were to be gained from the encounter.
Needless to say, Jose Mourinho had some choice words for his side. Speaking after the defeat, the manager remarked: “The team that wanted it more won. When the best team wins there is nothing to say. I don’t know why they wanted it more. I won’t be critical of my players in the media. I will analyze the game and, if I need to, I will criticise them.”
Back-to-back first-half goals from Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre ensured that the home side took a decisive lead over the Mancunian side.
Mourinho continued: “I was surprised by our performance, I was not expecting that. The team that started with emotion, aggression, intensity, and desire, the team that played the game of their lives was the team that won. Maybe in the second half we wanted it a little more and maybe we could get a draw, but I honestly think we deserved the punishment of the defeat.”
Despite being able to salvage a goal through substitute Marcus Rashford, United yet again fell behind, and weren’t able to match the intent of their opponents, which all but cemented their loss.
In his usual analytic fashion, the Portuguese boss went on to declare: “I’m disappointed, but the reality is they were stronger than us. I prefer to be at peace with football and to be at peace with football is when the best team wins. A bad team deserves to be punished.”
A sound 3-0 victory for City elsewhere against Burnley saw Pep Guardiola’s men secure their position atop the table with 5 points to boast about.
