AS Monaco Target Sends ‘Come And Get Me’ Plea
Anderlecht star Leander Dendoncker has reportedly stated that he ‘wouldn’t hesitate’ to complete a switch to Premier League giants Manchester United.
Dendoncker was linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, after United boss Jose Mourinho ‘expressed a strong interest’ in the Belgian midfielder.
However, former Chelsea star Nemanja Matic ended up joining the Red Devils for a fee of £40 million instead.
The 22-year-old ‘has sent a come-and-get-me plea to Manchester United’. When quizzed about a move to Old Trafford in the summer, Dendoncker told Sport/Foot: “If it was as concrete as was being said, if they wanted me at all costs, I’d already be there. When you play for Anderlecht and you have the chance to go there, you don’t hesitate, but Anderlecht had their bit to say. Everyone had to agree.”
The Belgian giants had put a price tag of £34 million on their prized asset, which the Old Trafford club were unwilling to pay. Though it was further claimed that Dendoncker understood why his side had demanded such an ‘over exaggerated’ price.
“For a club to pay what they were asking for, the club needed to be concretely interested. If Anderlecht asked for a lot of money, it’s because they knew it would be difficult, and, at that time of the year, the price was over exaggerated,” he added.
Dendoncker has been a vital member of Anderlecht’s squad since his debut back in 2013, and has made 126 appearances for the reigning Belgian First Division champions.
