Injury Crisis: Manchester United Could Face Spurs Without Six First-Team Players
Manchester United are set to take on Tottenham this weekend, with injury woes hovering over manager Jose Mourinho’s head. As the mouth-watering fixture approaches, the Red Devils are seemingly facing an injury crisis, with some key players expected to be sidelined for the match.
Marcus Rashford, being the primary concern, is ostensibly presumed to refrain from operating in the clash, as he was pulled off after 67 minutes of play during United’s 2-0 victory over Swansea. He appeared to be carrying a knock as he left the field.
Although the young starlet was able to append one assist to his tally, the English international appeared to be troubled throughout the fixture, and his appearance against Tottenham remains ever so sceptical.
Second up the list arrives Ander Herrera, who was also pulled off in the match against the Swans, and was displaced by Nemanja Matic. Jose Mourinho hopes for the duo to return in time, owing to the fact that the pair is significant for important games in the perpetuated non-attendance of Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick.
Although Scott McTominay put up an appreciable performance this season, Mourinho doesn’t feel like including the 20-year-old in the line-ups for crucial games, as he considers it’s more profitable to have his senior players go up against tougher parties, as claimed by Mirror.
Regardless, the ex-Chelsea gaffer seems to have options in defender, and he could select both Eric Bailly and Phil Jones, as they are deemed fit for the match against the Londoners. Mourinho had proposed that Bailly would return in time for Spurs, and furthermore, the Ivorian posted an update on social media, disclosing that he was feeling good.
When inquired about the situation concerning Jones, Mourinho proclaimed: “I think Jones will be [fit]. Because today he was on the bench and he told me that if I need him he will be ready, so I believe he will be even better for Saturday.”
The Red Devils will have to cope up with Marcos Rojo’s and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s absence too, for they won’t return soon enough to face Spurs this weekend. The manager has his hopes on the international break, which would supposedly provide the players with an extra ten days’ rehabilitation.
