Manchester United went back to winning ways on Saturday, when they were able to secure a 1-0 triumph against Tottenham. Spurs were without their key man Harry Kane, and despite putting on an altogether good performance, weren’t able to secure their defense in the second half.
A slight error at the back ensured that David De Gea’s long ball was flicked comfortably by Lukaku onto the path of Martial, who delivered it skillfully to the back of the net. At the end of 90 minutes, no one would have been happier than Jose Mourinho, and what he did was a reflection of just that.
When the whistle blew, the camera panned to the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss, in anticipation of the customary handshake to defeated manager Mauricio Pochettino. However, Mourinho was already prepared, and lifted his finger to his lips in a cheeky ‘shush’ gesture.
It doesn’t take a genius to realize that the move was directed towards his critics, who had risen from their hiding spots due to United’s dismal performances over the last two weeks.

A lackluster 0-0 draw at Anfield brought back the mockery of his tactic of defensively parking the bus. The embarrassing 2-1 loss to Huddersfield further heightened his misery. Mourinho was reportedly in a foul mood after the latter, and gave his lads a piece of his mind.
On Saturday too, the Red Devils were second to Spurs in the first half, and seemed extremely sloppy up front. This was swiftly amended by the master tactician during the halftime, and the side arose with a renewed attacking intent.
The 70th-minute substitution of Anthony Martial proved to be the decisive move in favor of the Premier League giants, and fans stormed to Twitter in approval of the actions of the Chosen One. The shush was a strong move, but whether it’s enough to quieten down the dread of difficult fixtures that they have looming ahead in the months to come remains to be seen.
