Reason Why Michael Carrick’s United Career Could End In Just Two Months

Manchester United’s veteran midfielder Michael Carrick may head towards the exit doors at Old Trafford in the January transfer window, as West Bromwich Albion, Leicester City, and Aston Villa have expressed their interest in signing him, according to reports.
Carrick is in the final year of his contract at the Mancunian club, and as expected, has been used scarcely by Jose Mourinho. He has featured in just one game so far, and that too in the Carabao Cup, which seems to be far from what the 36-year-old would have had in mind for his last season.
Considering the fact that the veteran midfielder did suffer an injury that forced him out of action, coupled with the rising forms of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, and Marouane Fellaini, Carrick’s one game might actually be all Mourinho had in store for him until now.

And though, the Englishman is set to return from injury next week, chances of him getting picked ahead of the likes of Matic and Herrera seem very bleak.
But as per Mirror, Carrick may find himself playing more often, but that would come at the expense of him ending his United career – something which he is unwilling to do.

The likes of West Bromwich Albion, Leicester City and Aston Villa are keen to sign the 36-year-old star. It was reported that the three English clubs would be ‘keeping an eye on how much involvement he gets when he’s fit’.
Mourinho, while speaking in September, had addressed the issue by giving United’s substitute goalkeeper Sergio Romero’s example to explain Carrick’s lack of game-time.
The Special One had said: “Romero played the Europa League final, which was the game of the season for us and he is not playing. Ander Herrera was player of the season and is not starting matches. That’s life in big clubs. We gave him a contract because we think he is a good player, an important player, he is just in a team where I think in this moment Matic and Fellaini are in the best form that I have ever seen them.
“I never saw Matic or Fellaini play so well, so he is in a team with these two guys playing absolutely phenomenal, so for Carrick and Ander it’s just patience because that time will arrive and they will be important players for us for sure. That’s a team, that’s a squad, we can only play with 11 guys.”
