Manchester United secured all three points against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, courtesy of a late goal scored by substitute Anthony Martial. The wet evening at Old Trafford was lit up in the 81st minute when the wide-man put one past Hugo Lloris and acquired three vital points for his side.

However, after the match, the 21-year-old revealed the secret behind his strike, as he stated that it was all because of his manager’s advice. United gaffer Jose Mourinho told the Frenchman, before he came on as a substitute, ‘to find the space’, which ultimately led to the match’s only goal.

“The manager told me to find the space,” Martial said while speaking to Sky Sports after the fixture “I know Lukaku is good with his head, and I found the space, so I’m happy.”

Romelu Lukaku had flicked the long ball from De Gea behind Spurs’ defence, and Martial brushed passed the defensive back-line as he ‘found the space’ to score the winning goal for the Red Devils.

Martial has struggled to find a permanent spot in Mourinho’s preferred lineup, but his influence from the bench has been remarkable this season. The France international’s goal against Spurs was his sixth for the campaign, and he is now just two short of his total tally for the whole of the 2016/17 season.

Manchester United stayed at the second position following their triumph over the London club, but are still five points behind city rivals and league leaders, Manchester City, who registered their 9th win of the season against West Brom last night.
