Kieran Tierney Signs A Six-Year Contract
In what will be a big blow to Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United, their target Kieran Tierney has signed a new contract with his current club Celtic. The duration of the new deal will end all speculation linking the defender with a move out of the Scottish Premiership any time soon.
In a statement on their website, Celtic revealed: “Celtic are delighted to announce that Kieran Tierney has signed a new six-year deal which will see him remain at the club until at least the summer of 2023.”
The 20-year-old was reportedly scouted by United earlier in the season, where he was instrumental in the side’s 4-0 win against Dundee. Apart from the London clubs, PSG too, were interested in securing the player during their visit to Parkhead courtesy of the Champions League.
Further, this will be a major blow primarily to Jose Mourinho, who was looking to sign the youngster in a bid to solve the problem posed by Luke Shaw. However, that interest can now be considered all but over.
The player himself revealed: “I’ve also got the right people around me to keep me grounded and it’s a big credit to them. My family will be delighted and it’s a big reward for them for believing in me and putting the work in all these years.”
However, he particularly attributed his decision to stay in Glasgow to one man: “I give a lot of thanks to the manager for believing in me.” Brendan Rodgers’ fine handling of the Scottish giants can be viewed best by the splendid manner in which he has handled this prized player.
Speaking to Celtic TV, Tierney further added: “I was very young when he came in, I had only played one season in the first team so there was always a doubt that he might bring someone more experienced in, but he has trusted me and I have a lot to thank him for.”
This talented youngster also functions as a left-back for the national side, and has always been a reliable source of goals too. The renewed contract has certainly ensured that he shall be contributing to the club’s rich history for quite a long time.
