Key United Player To Leave If City Sign Mendy Replacement

Luke Shaw is no longer in Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans for the remaining part of the season, following a tussle in which the latter accused the defender of being lenient in the sessions while recovering from injury.

The 22-year-old is considering a move to his former club Southampton in January to get some regular play-time, so as to force his way back into England boss Gareth Southgate’s plans ahead of the World Cup next summer.

Mourinho is reportedly open to letting Luke Shaw leave on loan in January.

According to the Mirror, the South Coast side is likely to sell Ryan Bertrand to Manchester City, who are keen to sign a left-back when the transfer window reopens, with £52m-rated Benjamin Mendy recovering from a serious knee injury.

This will come as a huge opening for Luke Shaw, who enjoyed success during his days at the St. Mary’s Stadium, but struggled since making the big-money move to Old Trafford.

The Englishman will have just 18 months left on his current deal when the transfer window reopens in January. No formal talks have yet taken place about a new long-term contract, and it is unlikely that he will extend his stay with the Red Devils. His current wages hover around £80,000-a-week, and he would have to take a pay-cut to return to Southampton.
