Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier has reportedly revealed that he had the chance to join Premier League Champions Chelsea on deadline day, but he ‘didn’t want to’.

The 26-year-old, who lost his place to Dani Alves after the Brazilian completed his switch to Paris, is unhappy at PSG due to lack of game time. Once the French side’s go-to right back, Meunier is yet to feature in the Champions League this season, despite having scored three goals and bagging two assists in Ligue 1.

The Belgium international is keen to make a move away from Parc des Princes, and it was earlier reported that United boss, Jose Mourinho, was plotting a £30 million transfer deal for him.

However, the defender did have a chance to move to the Premier League in the summer, when Chelsea came knocking at PSG’s door to secure his services. But as per Metro, Meunier snubbed the Blues in order to stay put with the Ligue 1 giants, despite growing ‘frustrated’ with them.

“I could have joined Chelsea in the final day of the transfer window, but I didn’t want to,” Meunier revealed while talking to Eleven Sports.

Chelsea eventually landed Davide Zappacosta on deadline day, as manager Antonio Conte was desperate to add a top quality right-back during the summer transfer window.

But as of now, the Red Devils seem to be the frontrunners to sign the Belgian, especially after the PSG man openly admitted of being ‘a big fan of Manchester United’ back in February.

The full-back revealed back in February: “On the other side of the Channel, there are the stadiums, the fans. And I’ve never hidden that I’m a big fan of Manchester United, which remains, in my eyes, the real reference in the world of football.”
