Manchester United teenager Angel Gomes seems to be on a roll due to some charismatic displays in the recently concluded U17 World Cup, wherein he helped the English team win its maiden World Cup.

Due to his top talent, the teenager is being tracked by some of Europe’s biggest clubs, according to his father. However, Jose Mourinho is not willing to let go the 17-year-old, amidst reports inking the starlet with La Liga heavyweights Barcelona.

The Englishman became the youngest player to play for United since Duncan Edwards’ debut for the club in 1953, when he featured in the final Premier League game of the previous season back in May. But United fear losing the midfielder, who has been at Old Trafford since the age of 6, as an offer from Barcelona may be difficult to resist.

Gomes’ father, Gill, a former U21 Portugal player, recently stated: “He is the youngest player in the history of English football of Manchester United. So the qualities are really above average. And today he is a player coveted by all the greats of Europe.”

Gomes is yet to sign professional terms with the Red Devils, and United would be due a compensation fee should the youngster move to Spain, but it would be a paltry sum for a player they’ve groomed since a very tender age.

However, staying put at United could prove to be good for Gomes as well, as the maxim of ‘if you’re good enough, you’re old enough’ still holds true at Old Trafford, from the days of Sir Alex Ferguson through the reigns of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, and now Mourinho, with Adnan Januzaj, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford all given opportunities to flourish.
