Mourinho Held Transfer Talks With Chelsea Player After Full-Time Whistle

On Sunday, Jose Mourinho was handed his second Premier League defeat of the season against a club he knows all too well. The 1-0 dropping will ensure that Manchester City’s comfort atop the Premier League table will be cemented by a resounding eight points.
Before being sacked by Chelsea, he spent an eventful prodigal season with the Blues, which saw them clinch the League. During his tenure, he brought in several key players, and one of them might be talked into an Old Trafford move in the near future.
As per Don Balon, Mourinho has been very interested in securing the services of Cesc Fabregas, and had talks with him over the same after Sunday’s defeat. The Portuguese boss had brought in the tactical midfielder to Stamford Bridge, and during their title-winning season, he was arguably amongst their top three players.

On Sunday as well, the 30-year-old was in remarkable form and displayed a playing prowess that has been his trademark style ever since his La Liga days with Barcelona.
However, having already lost Nemanja Matic this summer, it is highly unlikely that the Londoners will let go of him in an easy manner. The decision to sell the holding midfielder has confounded critics, as the player is precisely what is missing from their lineup, and has so far led to a dismal defense of their crown.

Since Fabregas is in the last year of his Chelsea contract, and is swiftly outliving his young days, the interest from Manchester will be hard to say no to. Having played under Mourinho, rapport won’t be an issue. However, where exactly he’ll function in the current United side is what most supporters will be pondering over. While he could potentially replace the likes of Herrera, his style is likely to conflict with that of Paul Pogba.
Regardless, with Mourinho being paid and trusted by the Mancunian board, it will be up to him to decide precisely how the Spaniard will function should a signing come through.
