Over the years, the importance of transfer markets has risen considerably. Gone are the days when they were viewed as opportunities to bring in one or two needed players. Nowadays, the windows are used as chances to overhaul entire squads, and as bids to rescue a doomed team and often even to bolster one’s chances of securing silverware.
Manchester United have dipped several times into the transfer market over the years, and will look to do the same come January. However, before they are allowed to bring in more recruitments, manager Jose Mourinho will have to do something important.
As per BBC, the management at Old Trafford has been instructed to sell players before they can purchase new talent. It is understood that this is being done in order to ease the pressure from the club’s rising wage bill. In addition, the selling will also ensure that the players currently warming the bench will seek new careers elsewhere.

The same source revealed that their wage bill has risen up in the current fiscal year to £263.5 million – a 13.5 percent increase. In the three windows that Mourinho has overseen at United, he has spent a tremendous £285 million on merely six players.
In the same time, sixteen individuals have been shown the back door, and despite that, the price difference hasn’t been tremendous for the side. The sale of Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin raked in nearly £40 million, but that is nowhere near the amount Mourinho has spent buying.
It is likely that Luke Shaw will be sold as a result of this instruction, and the youngster might fetch a decent sum. On the other hand, the doubtful future of Marouane Fellaini too, might be settled for good in order to meet this new demand.
