Stats That Indicate Just How Poor United Have Been Without Paul Pogba
It has been quite evident that Manchester United have been a poorer team on the pitch ever since their record signing Paul Pogba picked up a hamstring injury during their Champions League clash against FC Basel back in September.
The team that secured successive victories by stunning 4-goal margins and sat atop the Premier League table alongside arch-rivals Manchester City with the Frenchman pulling the strings from their midfield, is now suffering from poor form, and has fallen 8 points below the Citizens – all during the absence of their talisman.
Red Devils’ adored legend and current BT Sport pundit Paul Scholes recently summed up the importance of Pogba to Jose Mourinho’s side, by simply stating: “He links the team together. Lukaku is having to do a lot for himself but Pogba will make the difference. They are missing a player to knit the team together.”
And now, Daily Mail has revealed precisely how much Manchester United have missed the France international since he got sidelined two months ago.
As per the report, United played 4 league games with the 24-year-old on the field this season, out of which they won 3, lost 1, and scored a whopping 12 goals. Without the man, however, they have only picked up 4 victories out of the 7 games played, and scored a mere 11 goals.
Furthermore, the Reds were creating 14.8 chances per game in the presence of their £89m-rated midfielder, but without him, they have only been able to create 7 per match – numbers that also explain Romelu Lukaku’s goal-scoring drought.
These statistics, along with the evident dip in their performance on the pitch, are a clear indication of just how much United have missed Pogba. However, the superstar appears set to return for the club’s next match against Newcastle, and propel the Mancunian giants towards regaining their lethal form and resuming their title charge.
