Just when the footballing crowd thought Arsenal fans are done with their usual outrage and drama, the latest developments in Mesut Özil’s contract rebellion takes a new turn.

The German international looks set to run down his contract by the end of the season, and has hardly engaged in significant efforts to extend his stay in North London.

And now, according to Turkish news outlet Sabah, Özil has revealed that he has received a ‘serious’ offer from rival club Manchester United.

Whilst boss Arséne Wenger has insisted that neither the former Real Madrid star nor his fellow contract rebel Alexis Sanchez will be sold to a direct rival, Sabah have reported that the midfielder wants to say in the Premier League and has informed Fenerbahce, who have also made transfer approach, that he’ll probably end up at Old Trafford.

On the other hand, Catalunya Radio has reported that the German has agreed a contract with Barcelona after the club contacted his agent. The talented playmaker is said to be a replacement for former target Philippe Coutinho, whose move to the Nou Camp failed to materialise during the summer.

Meanwhile, Özil seems to have recovered from last season’s ‘invisible’ performances and has managed to display consistent top-drawer displays, with the latest coming during the Gunners’ clash against local rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The 29-year-old has proven to perform at his best when the men surrounding him perform well, which seemed to be the opposite of what the Londoners showcased the previous season.

Nevertheless, the World Cup champion is in no short of suitors waiting for his signature, and Wenger might regret not tying him down to a new contract sooner.
