Italian Giants Look To Sign United Outcast As Their Star Player Suffers Season-Ending Injury

Matteo Darmian has lost his place at Manchester United, and the sheer brilliance with which Antonio Valencia functions in the position doesn’t make it look like the Italian will regain a consistent spot anytime soon.

With Valencia also being named the captain for several matches now, and the 27-year-old’s inefficiency at playing on the other wing, where prospects aren’t too bright either, perhaps his time at Old Trafford is nearing an end.

If that is indeed the case, then one Italian powerhouse will be all too happy to bring the defender closer to home.

As per reports in Corriere Dello Sport, Roma are eyeing to purchase Darmian in the upcoming January window.

The same source went on to reveal that should the deal go through, it will initially be a loan move, before he is signed permanently at the start of next season if all parties are in agreement.

Further, the potential urgency of the Giallorossi stems from the fact that their brand new recruit, Rick Karsdorp, has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to an injury. As of such, the Red Devil will prove to be the ideal choice, and would also account for why the loan move is required.

Having secured a mere four starts this season, there certainly seems to be no reason why Darmian wouldn’t wish to make the switch to Italy, where he can be assured of game time and also be a part of Roma’s potential Serie A victory.

Having already secured 30 points whilst having two games in hand, Roma can still pose a decent title challenge to Juventus, Napoli and Inter Milan.

Darmian is an AC Milan youth academy product, and his fall from grace under Jose Mourinho has allegedly piqued the interest of several Italian sides. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if any of them are able to provide him with a path away from the Premier League.
