OFFICIAL: AC Milan Sack Montella And Appoint Controversial Figure As Their New Manager
AC Milan have confirmed the sacking of manager Vincenzo Montella on their official website.
Montella oversaw a woeful run of recent form that ended with the Serie A giants sitting a lowly sixth in the league table. The final straw came after Sunday’s clash with Torino ended 0-0, and saw them slip 11 points behind fourth-placed Roma.
After spending over €200 million on big-name transfers in the summer transfer window, the Rossoneri were tipped to be title challengers, but they appear to be very far from that kind of form at the moment.
Hence, the club felt a change was necessary in order to halt the slump in its tracks, and went ahead with the sacking. AC Milan legend Gennaro Gattuso has been handed the role of first team boss, at least until the club can find a permanent manager.
In a statement posted on the club’s official website, Milan said: “AC Milan announce to have parted ways with coach Vincenzo Montella. We are very grateful to Mr. Montella and his staff for all the work done up to today, their commitment and professionalism.
“Management of the first team is entrusted to Gennaro Gattuso, who leaves his position as Primavera coach and to whom AC Milan wish the best of luck. A press conference is scheduled for tomorrow to present the new coach at Milanello training centre.”
