Having players shine at your outfits is something all sides dearly desire. But with great performance comes the great possibility of another club swooping in for the player, and if the said club is a big name, chances of retaining the talent tend to be slim.

In this regard, United and Chelsea can now take in a huge breath of relief, as reports suggest that European giants Real Madrid will look closer to home in order to fill a spot that both the Premier League clubs have talented players in.

According to Marca, Los Blancos’ solution to their defensive woes will come in January in the form of Athletic Bilbao’s talented shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga. This will, therefore, signify the end of the La Liga side’s pursuit for United’s David De Gea and Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois.

The same source added that the Galacticos are desperate to make the signing, and will splash the requisite €20 million in the player’s buyout clause in January itself. Further, an agreement between the two clubs is believed to be imminent.

Kepa is considered to be Spain’s next big goalkeeping talent, and at 23, has already begun to draw comparisons with De Gea. The latter too, was pursued by Real in 2015, but an infamous administrative folly led to the move falling out in the last minute.

Since then, De Gea has still been pursued by the Spanish side, but the transfer of the Athletic Bilbao starlet could put an end to that once and for all.

Meanwhile, with the Red Devils adamant on not losing their keeper, it was Chelsea’s effective 25-year-old Belgian that came under Madrid’s radar, and reports of a move were running rampant leading up to the January window.

But with Kepa refusing to sign a new deal with his current club, it seems all but certain that his move to the Bernabeu is imminent, and it will certainly be a place where he’ll look to meet all expectations and excel at several more.
