Big Injury Boost: Two United Players Return For The Derby
Jose Mourinho has revealed that both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Phil Jones are fit and ready to face off against Manchester City in the derby.
The duo’s return will be a massive boost ahead of the club’s most important game of the season as well as the crunch Christmas period. Having already lost Paul Pogba to a three-game suspension, Mourinho will want all his other players fit and available for the upcoming games.
Zlatan is back after being rested for the massive clash against Arsenal after feeling a slight muscular problem, which is normal for a player who has been out of the game for so many months.
Jones, on the other hand, is back after suffering an injury during England’s friendly with Germany under extremely controversial circumstances.
“The players?” Mourinho asked. “Zlatan is available, Jones is available, Fellaini I have to wait until tomorrow, Carrick is not available, Bailly is not available. Matic is injured but he plays.”
Mourinho also revealed that he fully understands how much this game means to the people of Manchester, despite being ‘a little isolated from society’.
“To me it means one more big match against one of the best teams in the country, the first against the second, big match,” he added.
“I live a little bit isolated from society, I don’t feel it so much, it’s about training ground, hotel. My day off after CSKA I went home, so I really don’t have that communication.
“But I don’t need that to know a derby is something special for the people. For us it’s three points but for the people born in the city and feeling the colours in that good positive rivalry is a special match.
“We are a better team than last year, no doubts about it, I think City is also a better team than last season.”
