Barcelona are the current favourites to snap up Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid in the summer, according to respected journalist Guillem Balague.

The Frenchman looked set to leave the Spanish capital in the summer, only to see his club get penalized with a transfer ban for breaching FIFA’s rules.

Manchester United were the favourites to sign him then, but it appears as though Barcelona are now leading the race for his signature.

The Catalan giants are ready to meet his massive buy-out clause, and are set to make him their marquee signing in the summer.

Despite the constant links to United, Griezmann has appeared more eager to remain with a Liga Santander club, and his preference to remain in Spain greatly favours Barca.

Balague believes that the Spanish League’s table-toppers are favourites to sign him at the moment, and that the player’s parents and sister have already held a meeting with the club’s president.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Balague said: “United are not the only team interested in Griezmann.

“Barcelona are willing to match his €100m buy-out clause and the club’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has met Griezmann’s family for lunch, that’s because he doesn’t have an agent and his sister looks after his affairs.

“But it wasn’t only his sister that was there, perhaps tellingly, his parents were in attendance too. Griezmann will leave next summer for either United or Barca, but the Catalans are favourites at this moment in time.”
