European Giants Could Miss Paulo Dybala Because Of Philippe Coutinho

Juventus are planning to use Philippe Coutinho’s massive £143 million move from Liverpool to Barcelona as the ‘benchmark’ for any move related to Paulo Dybala, according to reports.

Dybala has been linked with a switch to United in recent weeks, with Jose Mourinho eager to snap up the services of a world-class creative attacking player.

Earlier this season, rumors suggested that United were prepared to offer the Old Lady a figure around the region of £60 million to bring the Argentine to Old Trafford. However, that fee has now almost tripled after Coutinho’s move to Barcelona.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder completed his long awaited move from Anfield to the Nou Camp earlier this week for an incredible £143 million – making him the second most expensive player in football history, and the most expensive player without a release clause in his contract.

According to TuttoSport, Juventus feel that their player is worth more than Barca’s new recruit, and are set to use the price of the deal as a ‘reference point’ for any move concerning Dybala.

Dybala is by far a more influential player for his club that Coutinho was for Liverpool though, despite the fact that they both play as attacking midfielders.

The facts don’t lie. Coutinho secured no trophies in a fruitless spell in Merseyside, while Dybala has won two consecutive Serie A titles in the last two seasons.

The Argentine is also a consistent goalscorer, bagging 10 goals or more for the Bianconeri since his move to the club in the 2015-16 season – the campaign he also managed to become their top scorer. Coutinho, on the other hand, has only hit double figures once in six seasons for his former side.

Hence, the Turin-based giants are strong in their belief that they should earn more money from United’s move for Dybala than Liverpool did by letting Coutinho leave for Barca.
