OFFICIAL: Barcelona Confirm The Exit Of One Of Their Longest Serving Stars
Barcelona will have to bid adieu to one of their longest serving players, as Javier Mascherano will depart the club later this week.
Confirming the move on their website, the Catalan giants announced the move by stating that he would receive “an institutional farewell on Wednesday at 11 am.”
The 33-year-old has spent seven-and-a-half years at Camp Nou, having arrived from Liverpool back in 2010. With 18 titles to his name, the Spanish centre-back-cum-defensive midfielder has been one of Barcelona’s most celebrated players.
A reduction of game time has led the Argentine to seek another club where he would receive regular playing time. The move has been speculated for quite a while now, with the Chinese Super League being touted as the likely destination.
It is believed that Hebei Fortune will be the club to secure his signature, after the move was all but confirmed by manager Manuel Pellegrini over the weekend. Barcelona, however, have not mentioned a specific destination for the player.
The versatile player enjoyed a successful stint with the Catalan giants, and his laurels include four league titles and two UEFA Champions League glories.
