Player Ratings: Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Manchester United
Manchester United suffered a defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in Gameweek 25 of the Premier League.
A Christian Eriksen goal inside the first minute, followed by an own goal by Phil Jones summed up United’s performance, as Manchester City went 15 points clear atop.
Here’s how Jose Mourinho’s men fared during the crunch encounter against Mauricio Pochettino’s men at Wembley.
David de Gea: 5
Could not have done anything to save the two goals that went past him. Made some good saves in the first half.
Antonio Valencia: 4
The best of the United lot in defence. Handled the pressure, but barely went forward.
Chris Smalling: 3
Played a hand in conceding the first goal. Reckless at most times and passing was poor.
Phil Jones: 3
Was culprit for both goals conceded, which included an own-goal after a shocking clearance.
Ashley Young: 3
Allowed the Spurs players to get behind him on numerous occasions. Looked vulnerable on the left and offered less going forward.
Nemanja Matic: 3
One of his poor displays in the United shirt. Reckless and sloppy at the same time, Matic also gave away possession.
Paul Pogba: 3
Did not have any say in the game, and received stick from Jose after Spurs’ 2nd goal.
Alexis Sanchez: 6
One of the better players for United, and looked to link up well. Was energetic throughout, but lacked support.
Jesse Lingard: 4
Offered nothing playing as a No. 10. Tried to make some good runs, but was easily seen out by Spurs players.
Anthony Martial: 4
Made some decent openings, but was wasted on the right in the first half. Was shifted to the left later, where he was also poor.
Romelu Lukaku: 5
Isolated most times, and touches on the ball were poor. Had a shot saved by Hugo Lloris, but apart from that, nothing.
SUBSTITUTES:
Marouane Fellaini: NA
Lasted on the pitch for only seven minutes following injury.
Juan Mata: 4
Did not have much say in the game.
Ander Herrera: 4
Gave the ball away on the edge of his own box presenting Spurs a chance. Did not have many touches.
