Wayne Rooney Names ‘The Toughest Defender’ He Has Ever Faced
Everton striker Wayne Rooney made his punditry debut, as he joined Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher and host David Jones in the Monday Night Football studio for Chelsea’s trip to Vicarage Road to take on Watford for the final game of last week’s Premier League action.
Rooney didn’t take long to get into the groove, as he absolutely obliterated his former foe within seconds by delivering a hilarious comment.
The former United man fired shots directly aimed at Carra as he kicked-off MNF on Sky Sports by saying: “Yeah I’m looking forward to it, it’s great to be here. To be honest, it’s the closest Carragher [has] ever got to me, so I’m sure he’ll enjoy it as well.”
And it was just the beginning to what the 32-year-old had in store for his debut appearance. His blunt nature during the Q&A session saw him answer some of the most interesting questions from the fans in an outright manner.
From discussing his strike partners at Old Trafford to him mentioning Anfield as the toughest stadium, Rooney revealed the toughest opponent he ever faced during his time at United.
Rooney was asked, “Who was the toughest defender you faced? I remember you destroyed Thiago Silva in the Champions League but who was the toughest?”
The Everton forward took the opportunity to once again banter with Jamie Carragher as he replied in a mocking tone, “Apart from Carra?”
“I have to say John Terry,” Rooney revealed. “For the first six or seven years I played against him, he was strong, obviously wasn’t the quickest boy, always put himself in the right positions.
“Every game I go in thinking, I’ll knock the ball past him and run, score, but he never put himself into a position to get exposed.”
