Alexis Sanchez is struggling to adapt to life as a Manchester United player, and sources at the club fear he may end up the same way Angel Di Maria did if things don’t improve quickly.

Despite breaking the then British transfer record to sign him from Real Madrid, the Red Devils were forced to let Di Maria go after just one season at the club.

The Argentine started his spell at Old Trafford in glorious form, and initially looked worth every penny the club paid for him. However, things soon turned sour, after burglars attempted to break into his house, and that was the beginning of the end of his United career.

The months that followed saw him fall out with Louis van Gaal, and ultimately leave the club after a year that couldn’t possibly have gone worse.

The way things are going with Alexis Sanchez at United at the moment, many at the club fear he may be destined for the same fate.

According to reports in Daily Mail, the Chilean cuts a lonesome figure at the club, and is often seen eating on his own away from the rest of the squad.

Some sources have even claimed that he looks as if he is ‘having second thoughts’ over his decision to move to the club in a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

“He looks like someone who doesn’t want to be here,” a United source said. “The whole thing doesn’t seem right and he looks like a lost boy. It was the same with Di Maria.”

Sanchez, who is away on international duty with Chile at the moment, finally opened up about the reasons behind his struggles at the club so far.

“As I am self-demanding, I expected something better,” said Sanchez. “The change of club was something that was very abrupt – it was the first time I’ve changed clubs in January – but many things have happened in my life that are difficult.”

“After my arrival at United, it was hard to change everything very quickly. I even hesitated to come here (for international duty),” he said after having joined up with the squad in Sweden.

“I had asked permission to miss these games, but then I thought better and spoke with Claudio [Bravo] and told him that we should all be united.”
