Schweinsteiger In, But Reus Misses Out From Germany’s Final Euro 2016 Squad

Germany coach Joachim Low has revealed his final squad for the upcoming Euro 2016 tournament.

The most notable absentee from the final squad is Borussia Dortmund star man Marco Reus. The 24-year-old was seen struggling at the national team’s training camp in Ascona, Switzerland, and has now missed out due to injury and health concerns.

Low had the following to comment on Reus’ health: “The doctors could not give a clear prognosis. He has huge health problems and can only walk straight at the moment. More wasn’t possible in training so far.”

“It’s a bitter decision for us and for him, a disappointment for us all, because a Marco Reus in form, healthy and fit, would have been a huge addition. But for technical reasons we have to take this decision as we know this tournament will be very strenuous.”

However, captain Bastian Schweinsteiger, and star centre-back Mats Hummels, have both been included in the final squad despite their injury concerns.

Low explained this decision by stating: “The prognosis on Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mats Hummels is clear from our medical department that they will be available for the tournament. Schweinsteiger, fully fit, will start training with the team this afternoon. Hummels will need a little longer. According to the doctors they’ll both be available.”

Low’s men will face Hungary in their final warm-up game on Saturday, and will then play their first Euro game against Ukraine on the 12th of June.

The final 23-man squad is as follows:
