With Marouane Fellaini’s future under the clouds and Michael Carrick retiring, United are in the market for a stand-out midfielder, and they have long identified the Lazio star to bring into their setup.

Earlier, it was believed that Lazio president Claudio Lotito is determined not to sell the player at any cost, after having believed to have rejected a £61.7m offer last summer.

Besides United, the likes of Manchester City, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be keeping an eye on the player.

But with this latest bid, the Reds are confident that the player will soon be Old Trafford-bound. It has also been widely stated that the 23-year-old wants to join the side because of his desire to play alongside his fellow compatriot, Nemanja Matic.

United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to play a three-man midfield next season, and he could just as well deploy Savic alongside Matic and Pogba to great effect.
