Premier League Giants Eager To Sign Key Barcelona Player

Manchester United have been hunting for an apt left-back for far too long. Luke Shaw’s departure seems imminent, and Ashley Young, despite his brilliance, is simply not a long-term assurance nor a specialist in the left-back position.

As of such, numerous stars have been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford, and the most recent one may be a likely candidate. According to Sport, both Manchester United and Chelsea are eager to sign Jordi Alba this summer.

The Spaniard had a gorgeous season at Barcelona last campaign which, apart from his prowess as a left-back, also showcased how well he could create goals, evident in his 11 assists.

Such a player, who also functions with attacking intent, could do wonders at any of the Premier League giants, and it is no wonder that a keen interest may exist.

However, the same source does add that Alba has expressed a desire to end his career at the Camp Nou itself.

At 29 years of age, there may still be a fair bit of time left for that, but the point of contention is the player’s contract. Although there are two years pending on the deal, Barcelona are reportedly yet to make good of their promise to offer a bumper renewal.

It seems likely that the English clubs, who have been prior admirers as well, wish to capitalize on this uncertainty and make the talented player their own.

Chelsea’s current left-back option is Marcos Alonso, and like United, their lack of an attacking threat in the past season may be the likely incentive for their alleged pursuit of Alba.

United, for their part, will just be eager to sort their flank conundrum once and for all, as Mourinho doesn’t want to sell without ensuring that arrivals are assured.

In the midst of all of this, the transfer window is ticking, and it remains to be seen whether something solid will materialize out of this interest.
