Top 5 Transfer Stories Of The Day – June 1, 2018
The month of June is upon us and the World Cup draws ever closer. Transfer deals appear to be in full swing and several clubs are starting to weigh their options and make the best bet.
Here are the top transfer stories of the day:
Real Madrid Want Klopp
In the aftermath of Zinedine Zidane’s shock resignation from Real Madrid, the European champions are on the lookout for a new manager.
The Sun believes that Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp is the top name in consideration, and that club president Florentino Perez firmly believes that the former Borussia Dortmund manager has the personality and character required to take over at the Bernabeu.
A reported fee of £28 million will have to be paid in compensation payment to separate Klopp from his current contract at Anfield.
Gareth Bale To Stay?
The Daily Mail reports that Real Madrid will seek to offer Gareth Bale a new contract in order to thwart interest from Man United.
The Welshman is clearly unhappy with his role at the moment, and has made it clear that his representatives will sit with the club and negotiate. It seems certain that only assured playing time would ensure that he stays on.
However, selling could prove problematic as well, as AS reports that about £121 million will have to be paid in order to pry Bale away.
Zidane To Chelsea
As a domino effect of his resignation, Zidane may find himself to be a manager in need, and a three-year streak of winning the Champions League doesn’t look bad on a resume.
The Sun reports that Chelsea will at least try to make an informal approach at signing Zidane on as their manager to replace Antonio Conte, whose awful title defence last season culminated in a fifth-place league finish for Chelsea.
So far, Zidane has made it clear that another club isn’t the reason why he resigned. Will the Premier League prove attractive enough for the Frenchman?
Arsenal Enquire About Dembele
Sport report that Arsenal’s head scout Sven Mislintat sat down with Barcelona in order to ascertain the contractual details of Ousmane Dembélé.
The Barca winger has been linked with a loan move to the Gunners, but it appears that the 20-year-old himself is not inclined towards a move yet.
It remains to be seen what Mislintat hopes to achieve from the interaction, as Arsenal clearly don’t have the budget to tempt the former Borussia Dortmund winger to the Emirates either.
Djibril Sidibé To Join La Liga Giants
After being linked with a host of clubs across Europe, Djibril Sidibé may finally have a destination. The Monaco youngster has agreed to personal terms with Atletico Madrid, as per L’Équipe (via Marca).
It appears that while the 25-year-old Frenchman views the La Liga club as an apt defensive challenge, his price tag may prove to be a point of contention.
Madrid are willing to offer only upwards of €25 million, which Monaco aren’t inclined to accept at the moment. It seems that the French side will wait and see if any other suitors come forward before addressing Madrid’s offer.
