However, the recent years have seen young players bring in immense returns and their transfers have gone on to create sizable records. Seemingly powered at least by this incentive, clubs are investing in their youth academies.
And now, Manchester United, a club whose fame has held numerous youngsters who went on to become legends, has yet another youngster ready to climb the rugged rungs.

17-year-old D’Mani Mellor has signed his first professional contract with the Red Devils.
A statement on their club website read: “The homegrown product was part of the successful Under-18s squad last season and is eligible for another campaign at that level.

“An energetic forward who presses from the front, he can play in a number of attacking positions and also competed in the UEFA Youth League for Nicky Butt’s side.”
Of Mancunian roots, Mellor could very much hope for big things in the years of professional football that await him.

His impressive antics have seen him score 5 goals and create one more in 20 appearances, of which 13 were substitute performances.
The teenager will hope to ape the kind of success that academy graduates Lingard, Rashford, and McTominay have enjoyed over the recent seasons, and while instant success is hard in the modern game, it isn’t impossible.
