Why Pre-Season Could Decide Anthony Martial’s United Career
Anthony Martial needs to put in a good performance in the United States this summer to save his Manchester United career.
Martial was one of the most influential players under Louis van Gaal, but things have headed downwards since the arrival of Jose Mourinho. The Frenchman has failed to impress the United boss and lost his spot in the starting XI.
In his two season under Mourinho, Martial has made 89 appearances and scored 19 goals. But a huge chunk of the appearances have been from the bench. The lack of game-time at United also saw him miss out on a spot in the French World Cup squad.
There were rumours suggesting that the winger would move on from Old Trafford this summer, with Juventus and Tottenham rumoured to be the most interested parties. But Mourinho has decided to give him one more chance, as he faces a striker crisis ahead of the new season.

Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford are set to miss the opening games of the Premier League, as they recover from their long campaigns in Russia. Alexis Sanchez is yet to land in the US due to a visa issue. Martial is the only player who can step into the striker boots for the moment.
This could be his last opportunity to impress Mourinho. The Frenchman needs to put in some good performances on the tour if he wants to revive his Manchester United career.
If he manages to score a couple of goals and impress Mourinho in pre-season games, we could see him turn up against Leicester City on August 10.
But bad performances in this pre-season would surely mean an end to his time at Old Trafford.
