Fred has finally revealed why he chose to join Manchester United over other interested powerhouses this summer.

Jose Mourinho was in need of a midfielder who could fit into the mold of Michael Carrick this summer, which is why Manchester United wasted no time, and went all out to bring in Brazilian International, Fred.

The Red Devils ensured that the paperwork was done before he left for the World Cup in Russia. There was an issue in obtaining a work permit for the player, but it was sorted out and a formal announcement was made in June.

Fred was linked with a number of clubs in Europe due to his impressive performances with Shakhtar Donetsk last season, but he evidently had a destination in mind.

“There were options in England and in Europe,” the Brazil international revealed. “Manchester City, PSG, but I chose United. I spoke to my agent Gilberto Silva, who played for Arsenal. He told me that United was a huge club.

“I spoke to my family and friends. When I said United, I saw their faces. I’m sure that I made the right choice. I want to play in and win the Premier League, the best league in the world. I had a proposal from China too, but I didn’t want to go there because I wanted to join United.”

Manchester United started their Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Leicester City, wherein the Reds secured a 2-1 victory, as Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw found the back of the net.

Fred starred in the midfield against the Foxes as well. As he gets accustomed to the English style of football, his performances are bound to improve as the season progresses, and a link-up with Nemanja Matic will surely bring the best out of him.
