Cristiano Ronaldo Reveals The First Advice He Received From Sir Alex Ferguson

‘Too many stepovers’ was one of the first assessments Sir Alex Ferguson made when Cristiano Ronaldo joined Manchester United.

Ronaldo and Sir Alex share one of the closest relationships in world football. The legendary Manchester United manager gave the Sporting Lisbon youth product his first big break in Europe after signing the talent in 2003.

Cristiano came to Old Trafford with his Portuguese mentality of beating players with excessive skills, but Sir Alex wasn’t a fan of his stepovers, and guided the player to his direct footballing style.

The Scot has been a huge influence on the superstar’s career. The forward still remembers the lessons he received at United, as he embarks a new life at Juventus this season.

“Of course, in the beginning of my career he was so important to me because I moved from Sporting to Manchester and had that Portuguese mentality – too many stepovers, decision making was not the best. So he taught me how to do it,” Ronaldo told DAZN.

“In the Premier League they don’t fall over so easy, they are tough. As I’ve said many times, he taught me everything. He was like a father to me. He helped me a lot at Manchester United,” Ronaldo added.

The 33-year-old spent six seasons at the Mancunian outfit, winning three Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy. The year before he left Old Trafford, Cristiano won his first Ballon d’Or as well, beating Barcelona‘s Lionel Messi.

The Portuguese joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2009, and enjoyed nine successful seasons with Los Blancos until wage disputes with Florentino Perez allowed Juventus to swoop in for the player in a reported €112 million move.

The Bianconeri have previously been victims of Ronaldo’s vicious strike in the Champions League final. Juventus fans will now be hoping that the forward can help the club lift the prestigious European title at the end of this season, which would be their first in 22 years.
