Injuries are an ongoing concern for any club, and often, they mar their progress this early in a campaign.

At a side like Manchester United, with a manager like Jose Mourinho, who prefers to have all his options intact and only field a world-class squad, injuries can be particularly cumbersome.

Mourinho was already cribbing about the long list of injuries the side had at the start of the campaign. Even though that list has since reduced considerably, one never knows when bad luck can strike next.

As of such, some bad news may await the Portuguese gaffer regarding a player he admires.

This will be a great relief, as the 30-year-old was instrumental in United’s 2-0 win against Burnley. During the key fixture, Mourinho fielded Fellaini in a crucial holding role alongside Matic, and enjoyed great results.

It seems likely that the tall midfielder, who in addition to being an imposing figure, will also be a ready source of defensive cover and a threat during set-pieces, will be a regular tactical change employed by Mourinho. He may even get a start during the big games and vital away fixtures.

However, his fitness may now be a fresh concern, as such injuries are definitely not why Mourinho rallied for the Belgian to receive fresh terms late into the summer window.
