Some players are bigger than the clubs they play at, and often it is their wishes that take center-stage. While Barcelona have boasted of a brilliant tenure with Lionel Messi, a recent claim brings a lot into question.

As has been the trend with Barcelona for the past months, the name that they have been linked with is Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.

The French midfielder has been long touted as the ideal replacement for the likes of Andres Iniesta at Camp Nou, with his commercial appeal an added bonus.

However, despite repeated claims that the deal won’t occur as the player himself has decided to take a call on his future next season, a conflicting desire now exists.

As per Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda (via Ok Diario), Lionel Messi has informed the Barcelona board that it is Pogba whom he deems fits to replace the gap left by Iniesta. Inda states: “Messi has asked for Pogba, but the problem of Barça is the Financial Fair Play. They have a chance to bring Pogba in winter on loan with a purchase option.”

However, Pogba himself has come out and revealed that the rumours surrounding his departure from Manchester United are just rumours, and that until he isn’t seen in a Barcelona jersey, these rumors shall persist.

Ideally, that ought to have been the end of the saga, but the star power that Messi brings to the table certainly begs a reopening. Besides, the request of the Argentine superstar may even bend Pogba’s own will.

It goes without saying that what Pogba brings to United’s attack, particularly in his familiar offensive role, is vital to the club’s revival.

Only the winter window can fully reveal the true nature of the saga, and supporters of the Red Devils will certainly be tense about the future of their star midfielder.
