World-Class Star Personally Called Mourinho To Confirm He’ll Not Join United

Manchester United suffered a major blow during this summer transfer window, after it became clear that the Red Devils were going to be unable to sign any players of note.
Though the club did manage to sign Diogo Dalot, Fred, and Lee Grant, the blockbuster signings that were promised never made it through the door at Old Trafford.
One such name that was floated in the media was that of Jerome Boateng. The German was a player targeted by Jose Mourinho to fill the void he felt was present in defence, but as we later learned, the move never materialised.
While it did initially become clear that it was Boateng who turned down the offer, the actual reason behind the defender’s decision has now been confirmed by Bild.

Boateng revealed that while the offer was tempting, he simply wasn’t convinced by the Portuguese boss that leaving Bayern Munich was a good idea. In doing so, Boateng confirmed that he did indeed have a conversation with the former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager.
“I called Jose Mourinho, I told him that his interest was an honor for me and thanked him for trying so hard for me,” Boateng revealed. “I explained to Jose that it’s difficult to leave Bayern, and if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club.”
While Boateng was one of the players United wanted, Mourinho would have also been satisfied with Leicester City’s Harry Maguire, who had a stellar first season with the Foxes.

The Englishman also enjoyed a sensational run at the World Cup with the Three Lions, taking the team to the semi-finals and even scoring during the tournament.
However, not a single move was sealed by the Red Devils in the end, with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward nullifying it all and refusing to provide funds for more players in the summer.
