Lukaku Reveals What Mourinho Said To The Team At Half-Time Against Watford

Manchester United were able to insert some badly-needed steam into their Premier League campaign, as they were able to win 2-1 against Watford at Vicarage Road.

The Red Devils went ahead in the first-half itself, as goals from Romelu Lukaku and Chris Smalling looked set to gift them three points.

However, Watford tried their best to hold on to a perfect start to their campaign, but Andre Gray’s second-half goal didn’t suffice, and Nemanja Matic’s red card came far too late in the game for the Hornets to take advantage.

Despite the strong showing, it appears that Jose Mourinho still had choice words for his lads at half-time. As per Lukaku, this is what the Portuguese gaffer told the side during the break (BT Sport):

“The manager said to us we were playing well but not great, he made us humble at half-time. We ground the result out, that’s what we need to do, to catch the teams above us. Credit to Watford. We were too sloppy but it’s another win and we have to keep going.”

Sunday’s strike meant that Lukaku has now scored 4 goals in 5 appearances for United this season, and the striker was quick to credit as well as constructively criticise his teammates.

“We had a few good runs from Lingard, Sanchez and myself, I scored, Chris [Smalling] scored, we had to try and score a third but we were sloppy, we have to look again at the images,” the Belgian added.

Watford would have surely caused United heartache late in the game had it not been for David De Gea, who carried on his spectacular rejuvenated form and made a crucial save in the final seconds of added time.

All in all, much positivity is to be taken from Mourinho’s side after this outing, and it seems likely that the lads will aim for better performances in the months to come.
