Manchester United made a sensational comeback in the second half to beat Newcastle United 3-2 in the Premier League.

Kenedy and Yoshinori Muto scored the goals to give the Magpies a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes. United’s woes continued, as they were below-par in the first 45 minutes. But the Reds responded brilliantly and scored three goals at the death to seal the deal.

Here are the player ratings in a mixed show at Old Trafford by the hosts after being involved in a contrast of two halves:

David De Gea: 5
Conceded two goals, but made a fine save off Jonjo Shelvey in the first half.

Ashley Young: 3
He was the last defender whilst the home side conceded both the goals, and was hapless after turning so easily. Made the match-winning assist.

Eric Bailly: 1
Was substituted in the 19th minute itself. Almost conceded a third.

Chris Smalling: 3
Was poor with his passing from the back-line as well as haphazard at times.

Luke Shaw: 3
Offered nothing significant. Should have done better with his crossing.

Scott McTominay: 2
Was clueless most times, and was rightly substituted after half-time.

Nemanja Matic: 2
Missed a sitter from 8 yards and was terrible throughout. Almost scored an own goal with a miscued header.

Paul Pogba: 7
Had to occupy a number of positions. Worked lovely for the equalising goal with Martial.

Marcus Rashford: 4
Missed a solid chance from a header after being fed by Romelu Lukaku.

Anthony Martial: 6
Scored a brilliantly worked goal with his right foot following a poor display in the first half.

Romelu Lukaku: 4
Didn’t have any clear chance and looked isolated. Showed urgency as United scored.

SUBSTITUTIONS –

Juan Mata: 7
Scored a brilliant free-kick. Brought some solid passing in the game as well.

Marouane Fellaini: 7
Was denied by the Newcastle goalie. Chested the ball well to lay it for Matic, who missed.

Scored the winner with a terrific header after coming on as the final substitute.
