Manchester United Midfielder Set For La Liga Move In January
Ander Herrera could join Athletic Bilbao once the transfer window opens in January.
Manchester United‘s midfield has undergone a lot of changes since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Scholes and Carrick have played out their time at Old Trafford, and Fergie’s successors have brought in a bunch of players to the club in the subsequent years.
Ander Herrera is one of them. The Spanish midfielder was a long-term target for the Red Devils. He was set to join the club under David Moyes, but due to fake representation, the move broke down, and Manchester United turned their attention towards Marouane Fellaini.
In 2014, Louis van Gaal arrived at the helm of Old Trafford and made Herrera one of his first signings. Since then, the midfielder has made 164 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 17 goals across all competitions.

Mourinho’s arrival has seen the player fall down the pecking order. The Portuguese gaffer has brought in Fred, Nemanja Matic, and Paul Pogba over the past three seasons, which has reduced Herrera’s playing time significantly.
According to a Basque source, El Correo, Athletic Bilbao made an attempt to sign their former star last summer. Los Leones are monitoring the player’s situation in Manchester, and are set to make an approach in January, as his contract expires at the end of this season.

Manchester United might sell the Spanish midfielder in the upcoming transfer season. Mourinho is packed with options in the midfield, and wants to raise funds for a quality centre-back to reinforce his shaky defence.
However, if this departure does materialise, the fans shall be frustrated to see another player being sold away after showing some impressive performances and passion for the club during this difficult period.
