There seems to be a lot of uncertainty surrounding Manchester United at the moment, be it about Jose Mourinho’s future as the club’s manager, or his team’s performances on the pitch.

Even when it comes to the squad, numerous players are unaware as to whether they will remain at the Old Trafford outfit once this season ends, all thanks to internal disputes, interest from other clubs, or the expiration of their respective contracts.

Spanish duo Ander Herrera and Juan Mata fit into the latter category, as their current deals are all set to expire come summer.

However, despite the two not being guaranteed starters for the Red Devils, manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly asked the club to hold onto these midfielders.

According to Evening Standard, the Portuguese tactician has advised chief executive Ed Woodward to hand brand new contracts to both Herrera and Mata.

Jose sees the two as positive influences in the Manchester United dressing room, and with times being tumultuous at the Theatre of Dreams, Mourinho needs these harmonising figures to unite the team now more than ever.

Apart from their off-the-field qualities, both the Spanish internationals also get the job done on the pitch whenever called upon, and holding onto these fan-favourite players will only lead to positive outcomes for the Mancunians.

If United do let them go, however, the experienced duo will have no shortage of suitors, especially with a host of clubs from their native homeland looking to secure their services since quite a while.
