Manchester United beat Everton 2-1 at Old Trafford to move to within five points of the Premier League‘s top four.

The hosts went ahead through Paul Pogba’s stupendous strike in the first half. He then set up fellow Frenchman Anthony Martial to see the Red Devils go 2-0 up within 60 minutes.

United then almost had a tense period, with midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson converting a penalty with 12 minutes remaining, but the home side held on to their advantage.

Here’s how Jose Mourinho’s men fared at Old Trafford:

David de Gea – 7
The Spaniard made an outstanding save, and was watchful throughout the game.

Ashley Young – 7
It was a productive and proactive display from the skipper, and his run of games is a positive sign.

Chris Smalling – 4
Made a stupid tackle on Richarlison to gift Everton a penalty, and was lucky not to have been sent off.

Victor Lindelof – 7
He took his time to find his feet, and then looked assured alongside Chris Smalling.

Luke Shaw – 5
Was rusty in the first half, but somewhat bettered his show in the next 45 minutes.

Nemanja Matic – 4
Another shabby performance by the Serbian. His continuous run of poor games continued.

Paul Pogba – 6
Missed his penalty, but slotted the ball home on the rebound. Assisted Martial for the 2nd, but got poor as the match advanced.

Fred – 6
A decent show by the Brazilian, who made his return to the side after a long time.

Juan Mata – 5
Missed a free header and often slowed down the game.

Marcus Rashford – 3
Not a match he would have liked. A poor show by the striker.

Anthony Martial – 9
The Frenchman won the penalty, constantly troubled right-back Seamus Coleman with his intensity, and scored a superbly taken goal.

Substitutes:

Romelu Lukaku – 3
Not the impact he needed to make after being dropped. Didn’t do much post coming on.

Ander Herrera – 7
Added some fluidity, and brought composure in both defence and midfield.

Jesse Lingard – N/A
Came on too late.
